Algerian worldbeat artist Rachid Taha was born in the Gulf of Oran during the tip of the Independence War era; as a minor, he resettled with his mob to France, after finding employ as a dish washer, cook and manufacturing plant worker ahead landing a DJing gig at a small region club. Forming the group Carte de Sejour, Taha attempted to create a style of Arabic rock medicine heavily influenced by the Algerian rai good. In 1990 he went solo, moving into dance music. Teaming with manufacturer Steve Hillage, he debuted in 1995 with a self-titled travail, followed a year later by Ole Ole. Taha returned in 1998 with Divan. His 2000 spillage, Made in Medina, was recorded in Paris, London, Marrakech and New Orleans, reflecting the wide kitchen stove of cultural influences that helped condition the recording.
